The PET Movement is dedicated to uniting individuals and organizations in a collective effort to advocate for the establishment of Federal legal protections that recognize companion animals as valued family members. Our mission is to ensure that the best interests of these animals are upheld in all legal considerations, promoting laws and policies that safeguard their well-being and dignity.
Take a look back at a brief history of Animal Rights, Animal Law and the century old “Pets are Property” Law. We’ll also highlight recent scientific findings on dogs and share current statistics that demonstrate the significant role pets play in the lives of Americans.
Laws must evolve with society—if they don’t, how can they truly protect us?
The P.rovisions for A.nimal W.elfare S.tandards Doctrine is a proposed bill with laws and policies that safeguard the well-being and dignity of our companion pets. This aims to modernize the antiquated property law and reflect the value our pets hold in our lives. This Bill defines companion animals as a family member, giving a distinct separation from the outdated “Pets are Property” law, allowing for modern ethical policies to be set forth.
The “Pets are Property” law is easily manipulated, holds little accountability, is vastly contradicting across all states, subsequently making it extremely expensive and difficult to pursue through lawsuits and vulnerable to be victimized. These are stories fighting for justice.
Together we can make a difference for our pets! Tell us how the outdated ‘Pets are Property’ law has affected you or your loved ones. Share why this cause matters to you. Interested in volunteering or joining our team? Represent an organization and want to lend your support? Or perhaps you have an idea that can help bring us closer to change? We welcome all inquiries and voices!
